It's nothing special.. 9/10 Defined historical referencing and modeling of cities in ancient Rome make Imperium Romanum so enjoyable. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED CITY SIMULATOR GEM!(Especially for fans of the Roman civilization)I remember playing this game in the distant summer of 2008. It took me a lot of time to understand all of the mechanics, win my first challenging campaign missions and building a big and functioning metropole in a scenario. In my opinion, even after all of these years, it remains one of the best city-sims out there. Every now and then I reinstalled it from the original CD but now I decided to buy it with the expansion on Steam to play it once more. To the technical part of the game:Graphics:+ buildings, terrain and vegetation are eye-pleasing even to this day+ the lighting and shadows deserve their own appreciation+ time of the day can be stopped by using altars if you like a particular lighting, but the point is, it actually changes slowly but constantly (day, night, rain, dusk, sunset, storm etc.)- character models are very simple and lack details (not a problem most of the time, since you play zoomed out and only see your citizens from afar)Sound:+ the quality is good+ for some reason unknown to me and the people I have recommended this game to, the music is so enjoyable that even after hundreds of hours it won't tire you, ypu will find yourself whistling it when not playing the game+ ambient sounds are fittingGameplay:+ good economics simulation, goods have to be harvested (e.g. flour), processed (e.g. baker) and distributed (e.g. marketplace or at the baker itself)+ you can play: scenarios (without tasks or goals), campaign missions (with up to 3 tasks at the same time), Rome (build up the eternal city) and the tutorial (economy and battle tutorials available to understand the basic mechanics)+ slaves, who represent the "drones" moving resources from point A to point B on the whole map, work properly and can't be managed or moved but you don't need to, since they do everything correctly on their own+ trade allows you to compensate for resource shortage or abundance+ presents an enjoyable challenge in space, resources and people management+ decorations and monuments add uniqueness to your city+ endless factor: you can play as much as you want, expand your city, build warehouses somewhere else on the map and create and expand another city there, until pretty much covering the whole map (I never got to that point)+ maps are VERY well made and allow you to build a lot, recognize the purpose of each area you can conquer (barbarian village close to gold mine :P) and make up for a varied environment- combat is limited to defending your town from barbarian incursions and destroying the villages they come from. Could have added constant barbarian threats as an option even without having nearby villages to actually keep you on your toes and make defensive structures worth it (I think only 1 scenario has this situation in which barbarians just come from outside the map)- only 3 unit types which just play in a rock-paper-scissors manner against the barbarian unit typesI will eventually update this review later on, but this was all that came to my mind regarding the main aspects.. If it wasn't free I probably wouldn't have gotten it.. You should have this. The gameplay is very casual and relaxing depending on map difficulty.. i like the demo so now i buy the game hoop is fun to :D
